At The Harvest Concept, we offer more than just a Jiu Jitsu class—we offer a place where teens and adults can challenge themselves, build lasting confidence, and find a community that supports growth from the inside out.
We’re a school, not a fight club. A place where beginners are celebrated, hard work is respected, and everyone trains at their own pace. Our students develop true martial skill—without ego, intimidation, or unnecessary pressure.

From the Korean Battlefield to the Modern Mat
Our approach to Jiu Jitsu draws from ancient Korean battlefield techniques, where warriors used joint locks, throws, and grappling to subdue opponents in armor. These methods were formalized in systems such as:
-
Soo Moo Sool – Martial techniques of the Korean royal guard, emphasizing control, throws, and pressure points.
-
Yoo Sool (Yusool) – Korean “soft techniques,” performed in historical martial festivals and competitions, emphasizing redirection, balance, and yielding.
Crossroads of Cultures: Japanese Influence and Return
In the early 20th century, Japanese Ju Jitsu and Judo heavily influenced Korean martial arts. Choi Yong Sul—considered a founder of Hapkido—studied in Japan and brought these grappling systems back to Korea, where they blended with native practices.
This fusion evolved into Hapkido, known for circular motion, joint manipulation, and dynamic throws. Han Mu Do, created by Dr. He-Young Kimm, refined this further into a complete martial system that includes grappling, weapons, forms, and philosophy.
Dr. Kimm’s Judo Legacy
Dr. He-Young Kimm, founder of Han Mu Do, holds a coral belt in Judo—a testament to his lifelong dedication.
He captained Korea’s national championship Judo team and continues to represent Korean Judo through the U.S. Judo Master’s Society.
His legacy brings technical precision and deep philosophy into our program today.
The Spread of Jiu Jitsu to Brazil and the U.S.
While Korean martial arts evolved, Japanese Ju Jitsu also found a new home in Brazil in the early 1900s. Though Mitsuyo Maeda is often credited with introducing the art, others such as Sada Miyako and Mario Aleixo were already teaching by 1909. These Japanese masters helped lay the groundwork for what would become Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ)—a uniquely effective grappling system refined in Brazil through decades of experimentation and live training.
The Gracie family—notably Carlos and Helio Gracie—adapted these traditional Japanese techniques into a system that emphasized leverage, positional strategy, and real-world applicability. They pioneered the concept of live sparring (rolling) and submission grappling, proving their effectiveness through challenge matches and competition.
